The International master’s in architecture (IMA) is a two-year program taught in English at UClouvain-LOCI Faculty. It is innovative in its way of learning while traveling and discovering the contemporary challenges addressed to architecture. The courses are given in Brussels, Tournai, Louvain-la-Neuve, but also with our European partners, online, on the train and in situ around the world. LOCI-IMA invites students to follow a master's program in architecture in partnership with institutions from different countries. Here, students work in multidisciplinary and transnational groups. The workshops address pressing questions based on information provided by teachers, experts, researchers from UCLouvain and partner institutions, but also actors from civil society. Each year, a theme is proposed and finds in LOCI-IMA an anchor point in the discipline of architecture. Courses and workshops mobilize knowledge and methodologies to explore scenarios and paths of reflection, but also tentative designs combining lessons learned from analysis, research, online contacts with international partners as well as in situ workshops. The Blended Intensive Programs (BIP), courses, seminars and studios are situated at the point of contact between teaching and research in LOCI and LAB. The contents of the teaching units of this program will be aligned with the ambitions of the annual theme, allowing students to carry out a polythematic synthesis work where theory &amp; practice dichotomy disappears. BIP: Europe in Transition Revisiting typologies towards sustainable territories by recycling &amp; inhabiting structures already there By crossing Europe, students will be invited to take an interest in understanding the different typologies and morphologies encountered during this trans-European Odyssey. For many years, the partner schools located in the different corners of Europe have been working together to survey and analyze the buildings culturally inscribed in their singular contexts, and more particularly the architecture of housing which makes up the fabric of our cities or occupies our rural areas. Brussels houses, casa-vagons and blocks in Bucharest, Italian palazzi, but also outskirts of our cities are among many remarkable architectures that compose the fabric of the cities and suburbs. This program will focus on the mutation of the built types with regard to upheavals in uses and practices, climate change or new materials and construction techniques, cultural or political revolutions. BIP : Rural areas facing Climate Change This Blended Mobility Program aims to cross views of the tropical and continental remote territories facing climate changes and realities of new rurality. In the light of the recent crisis and the desire of many people living in cities to reconnect with the countryside, a reversal of the rural exodus is observed. The desire to return to greater proximity with the food-producing areas, the sprawl of the fabric, the desertification of the soils, added to climate changes raise a certain number of problems:&nbsp; — How to preserve this quality of life, this proximity?&nbsp; — How can we reconcile some of the contributions of modernity with local customs and traditions?&nbsp; — How can we design infrastructures and systems that are more resilient to climate change (water management, landscape preservation, energy autonomy, etc.)?&nbsp; These are the issues and problems that arise in the Mafate Circus in La Réunion, in the deserted remote rural areas near Alicante, in the heavy flooded countryside of Wallonia and Germany.&nbsp; By comparing their solutions and local approaches, these case studies will be an opportunity to reflect on the problems of water management in all its forms, but also on food and energy autonomy. Belgium, facing its own challenges Brussels and its region remain an incredible source of questioning, one of the most ancient towns in Europe, but also one that dared to embrace modernity right down to its historical center. It is today a regional city where the same challenges are played out as in other European cities: ecological and mobility management challenges, ongoing building rehabilitation challenges, challenges of projecting infrastructural boundaries, challenges of living together in the second most cosmopolitan city in the world.&nbsp; The Tournai/Lille/Courtrai cross-border region is also part of major European issues. Intercity and intercountry polarity, this metropolis is one of the examples to follow, to seize the possibilities that Europe allows. It reflects possible economical exchanges, historical cultural shared dimensions, a landscape conceived together.&nbsp; Finally, the Walloon Brabant constitutes the diffuse territory, where sprawl and rural landscape cohabitate. The challenges of the diffuse city and the mineralization of the soil are questioned there as in other European territories.
